Journal Addiction

Wild Whisper Designs Out & About Collection and Eileen Hull's Journal Die are a match made in heaven...well for me they are!! An entire collection about travel and this die ~sigh~
My newest project is up on the Wild Whisper blog right now with all the details! You're going to want to get a couple packages of this collection because you will use it all!! And if you haven't got the journal die designed by Eileen Hull yet, you'll want to get your hands on that too, you can find it at Scrap Shotz Online Store!!
You don't have to be a world traveler to use a travelers journal, you can use it for a day trip, a weekend trip or plan your dream trip in! And the Out & About Collection is just perfect for this, the papers are gorgeous (as always!) and the pack of cards are just what you need to make little tuck spots and focal points for your signatures inside!

Here is my finished journal and all the details are over on the Wild Whisper blog! Be sure to head over and check it out and also take a look at the amazing projects the team have created with this collection! So many ideas!

Thanks for having a look at one of my favorite projects!

Have a great day everyone!

My First ATC's

I haven't worked on ATC's before so this is another new adventure for me! You can come and play along too at the Mixed Up Mag Mixer Facebook group! Weekly prompts are posted and lots of people play along and there are so many good ideas! And it's great for if you are ever stumped, or feel like your mojo went on vacation without you! Also you can purchase the prompts that will fit right on the back of your ATC from Mixed Up Merchandise on Etsy
Don't miss out on the fun! And don't feel you have to do every week, jump in and out when you want to! It's all for fun and sharing our creativity and ideas!

I have attached my first 4 weeks of the challenge here.

Week 1 Challenge - Use your most recent purchase. Mine was some of the Architexture line from 7 Gypsies, which is what all my little cut outs came from. My ATC is covered in Copper Wax from Finnabair, then I used Glass Bead Gel through a stencil for texture. All my pieces are edged in Distress Ink in Worn Lipstick, and my butterflies are TH rub ons.

Week 2 Challenge - Make circles with your coffee cup. I layered paper from the Architexture line first, edge in Distress Ink in Vintage Photo. I did circles with my coffee cup but they didn't stay dark enough so I tried using some coffee grounds to help out.

I still wasn't happy with the circles so I used some Burnt Copper Leaves Embossing Powder from Emerald Creek, but didn't heat emboss it so it looks like grounds :) Added some wings and flowers from TH and some flowers with Emerald Creek gemstones as flower centers.

Week 3 Challenge - Use up old alpha or number stickers/die cuts. I found some old die cut letters (the large c and p underneath) and little alphabet stickers in my stash. ATC is done with Distress Oxides and the large letters are embossed in Burnt Copper Leaves and Fractured Ice from Emerald Creek.

This is a bottle cap I ran through my big shot and then added the TH bingo piece and Emerald Creek gemstones.

Week 4 Challenge - Be inspired by words from a song or poem. Atc is coloured with Distress Oxides in Spiced Marmalade, Candied Apple and Wild Honey. I attached the ripped sheet music with TH Distress Medium in Vintage. The words are from a song by Warren Zevon that my son chose and was played at my Mom's funeral.

The music note is from Southern Ridge Trading Company and was inked in Distress Oxide in Candied Apple and then embosses with Fractured Ice.

The Week 5 Challenge is up today so come on over and join in the fun! And let's see your ATC's.

Thanks for stopping by and have a great day!

I Really Am Creating!!

I know it seems like I may be doing nothing...but honest I am!! LOL  I have a number of projects coming up next week and the week after and I can't wait to share them with you!! But for now I'd like to share some of my crafting I did while I was on the east coast of Canada, having my first visit to Nova Scotia and Prince Edward Island! I took some supplies with me, picked up a couple of small things while I was there and just used the quiet evening time to play and relax. Sometimes it was at the little kitchen table we had in our cottage or it was on the kitchen island in the big house we all stayed in, or the coffee table in my pretend bedroom(really a second living room but worked out great for us). I worked on fun tags, tags with trip stuff on them, a thank you card for my cousins and a birthday card for my Uncle Jim.

This was the birthday card for my Uncle Jim for his 70th birthday. So glad I grabbed a handful of my TH Paper dolls and threw them in my little travel bag.

For the map piece, I just trimmed it down, rounded the corners and then drew the hearts on. One around Nova Scotia where my Uncle lives and one around Vancouver where the rest of us live.

And these paper dolls were perfect. The two boys represent my Uncle Jim and my Uncle Rick (who passed away in July a number of years ago), the two girls represent my Auntie Judy and my Mom (who passed 4 years ago) and the lone show off girl is my Auntie Barb, who is 16 years younger than her oldest sibling. I think my Uncle liked his card.

I also did a thank you card, attached to a bottle of vodka to make more vodka slushy, for my cousin Ken and Nancy and Kaley, the owners of Hope River Farm. Be sure to check out the facebook page to follow the antics of farm life in PEI. They fed us so well while we were there and their table was full of family, 12 of us total!!

I seriously just threw in handfuls of TH Paper Dolls and other cards, some stuff from the Prima St. Tropex line and stamps that I loved like the Dina Wakely one that I used to border this card. Colour is from my DW Scribble Sticks and my Wendy Vecchi Minis.

These tags were from our first days of heading out to the east coast, from our dinner at the airport in Vancouver to our first night on Cape Breton Island. The Lighthouse Cottages were probably my fave little cottages. And if you go to the site and let the pics run  through, we had the 3 cottages closest to the green space. What a view and lovely beach space.

This piece was from a brochure and the top piece was my receipt from the Glenorra Distillery that we visited.

One of my sassy girl tags! It was just nice to sit and play after busy days of driving, sight seeing and beach combing.

And this one went to my Auntie Judy due to a conversation, over dishes, in my Auntie Nikki's kitchen after some wine and my made up on the spot poem that consisted of "Sassy, Sassy, kiss my assy" Yup...you had to be there to find this as hilarious as we did and yup...my family is batshit crazy!! LOL

And these three tags were done one evening while crafting on the kitchen island while we stayed in big house on the Bay of Fundy. Even though there were 10 of us, it was always kind of quiet i nthe evening, I was crafting, another group was playing crib at the dining room table, another group sitting in the living room reading. Everyone doing their own thing but still all together as a family.

Thanks all for stopping by! One day soon I'll post some pics of the amazing scenery we saw on the east coast and some of the places we stayed.

Have a wonderful week everyone!

It's Back To School Time

Yes...yes folks it is the 1st of September!! What the heck?! Where did the summer go? Well over at Mixed Media Mojo the 1st means it's time for a new challenge! Are you ready to play along with this one? The September challenge is "School Fun" with a "Book" twist! I don't have the Back To School happenings in my house anymore, my baby turned 22 in August. That said, I still browse the supply aisles just in case something needs to come home with me LOL
For my first project for the new challenge I completely redid a pencil case/art supply case. I received some wonderful products from Rita Barakat, I won a giveaway she had, and put them to good use!

Here is the front of my re vamped pencil case. And see it fits some of my must have pens and glue and a waterbrush. It will fit more than what's in the picture :)

This is the back of the case. Some stamped images from Tim Holtz, Wendy Vecchi and Emerald Creek.

This is what the case looked like before I started. Then I used some gorgeous paints from Momenta in Teal and Copper.

One coat of this paint gave it a good cover.

I used the copper to edge the front of the case and stencil the word 'discover" from Dina Wakely's stencil. I also sponged some of the copper over the teal before I stenciled.
Leaf stamp from Emerald Creek and one of my Minis in Leaf Green

This is one of Wendy Vecchi's border stamps in Orange Blossom.

Tim Holtz quote stamp in Orange Blossom too. I love this colour, I need to use it more.
And this small stack is my book twist. Added on with Dina Wakely Gel Medium. And that very eclectic stack of books is from my own libray, and in case anyone is interested the book are from top to bottom...Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone by J.K Rowling, The Mixed Media Artist by Seth Apter, Art Journal Freedom by Dina Wakely, The Happiness Project by Gretchen Rubin, The Heroin Diaries by Nikki Sixx, Falling Backwards by Jann Arden, Adventures in English Literature, my Dad's English book from 1965 and the bottom one is The Artist's Way by Julia Cameron.

The finished project!

I hope you swing by the Mixed Media Mojo Challenge Group on Facebook and see all the projects from the DT and don't forget to share your School Fun with a book twist project!

Thanks for stopping by everyone and have a wonderful Friday and fabulous long weekend!!

Cathy
