Mermaid Hair, Don't Care

The beach is calling and I need to go!! I live so close to lovely beaches but never seem to get there.
I am sharing with you my first project with the Xyron Makers Program! So excited to share this with you and to use the Xyron Creative Station Lite.
What an incredible tool to have on my craft table! For this project I used the 5" Creative Station Permanent Refill and it worked for everything.

My Mermaid Hair wall hanging started with Wild Whisper Wild Whimsy paper and also the Card Pack and my Xyron Creative Station Lite.

These pieces were cut to fit the sides of the wooden panel.

So quick and easy to have all 4 strips ready to go.

I adhered my strips around the sides of the panel and for the larger piece I used my Xyron Tape Runner. I also used the Xyron Adhesive Eraser on this part, as my little sausage finger had adhesive on it when I layed down the large piece. A couple of quick swipes with the adhesive eraser and no more finger print!
To add a bit of texture I used Tim Holtz Distress Collage Medium and TCW stencils.

While the medium was drying I started work on my chipboard pieces from Southern Ridge Trading Company

For the first pass I put the steampunk mermaid face down through the Xyron Creative Station Lite, so the adhesive was on the side that would be facing up.

I took the backing off and added some metal flake I had in my stash. It adhered so nicely with just the permanent adhesive.

I used the same method with the Xyron Creative Station Lite and ran through my coral pieces and then embossed them with Emerald Creek embossing powders. Ran them through the second time so I could attach them to my project.

These are all the embossing powders used on the chipboard pieces. Mermaid Fin, Dragons Egg and Kiss of the Fairy by Rita Barakat, Taos Sunset and Deep Sea from Seth Apter and Charred Gold.

I used this idea for making super cost effective foam tape using the Xyron Creative Station Lite. You can see the original post from Erin Reed  at Erin Reed Makes. She includes a quick video showing exactly how she did it.

Adds some great dimension.
And one more shot of the finished piece!!

And here are some close ups of the pieces done with Xyron permanent adhesive and embossing powders.

Thank you for stopping by to check out my project as part of the Xyron Makers Program. I loved how much I could do with just one small tool on my desk. And it was so smooth to run through, I could do it with one hand.

Have a great day!

Creative Reminders

Today I'm sharing my! It started with a challenge from Rita Barakat on New Year's Eve and then I kind of wanted more.
I'm sure I'm not the only that struggles with being/staying positive somedays. I have great days, but some days are hard. So what started as a challenge, turned into little embossed/foiled/stenciled/papered labeled wooden tags that now hang in my kitchen, where I can see them everyday!
There are no step outs on these little lovelies, just the finished projects and some close ups of the gorgeous texture. And I used some of my favorite companies to create these.

The little hanging tag family

It all started with this embossing challenge in the Rise and Shine with Rita Barakat facebook group.

Chipboard pieces for the background are from Southern Ridge Trading Company and all the embossing powders are from RB Magical Mysteries line from Emerald Creek

Look at this lovely texture!

I love the simplicity of this tag

Added a touch of RM Mixed Media Medium, some Ranger Foil and a TH Quote Chip

Painted with Finnabair paints, Ranger texture paste through Rebekah Meier's stencil from TCW.

It was an embossing night for sure and I pulled out some of my faves from the Seth Apter Baked Texture line from Emerald Creek.

Yumm!! Patina Oxide and Chunky Rust!

Background paper from Canvas Corp, Vintage Beeswax Baked Texture EP, AI dyed roses from TH, TH Quote Chips, TH baubles dyed with AI, Southern Ridge Trading Company Chipboard, Patina Oxide EP

Little close up of my resin roses and baubles, dyed with alcohol ink.

Yes, I am addicted to Patina Oxide embossing powder!

And to be able to hang them all, I used some wire from my stash and Eileen Hull's Twist and Style Tool.

Thanks for stopping by today and have a great day!

Christmas Ornaments in June

I think it has been established that I love the beach/ocean/tropical and would create with that theme all the time! I'm very fortunate that lots of my fave companies have that theme! :)

A few weeks ago I shared my first ornament created with fabulous Southern Ridge Trading Company chipboard, you can go back to check out that one HERE
I had a few more pieces left over and decided I needed another ornament. And here is the second one that I created.

The wooden tag is from SRTC and the wood like finish is actually a piece of napkin that I got from PEI last June. I used DW Gel Medium to put it on and it pulled apart in just the right places!

The full wooden tag.

This is where the napkin tore a bit and you can see the wood underneath.

The lobster is embossed in Candy Red and then again with the Fractured Ice over it. The crab is just done in the Candy Red.

Look at that gorgeous little crustacean!

The center word blocks are from Kaisercraft Beach Shack Collection and the baby seashells just had to be added.

I do have one more tag to work on and I plan on creating another beach themed ornament for my Christmas tree :)

Putting on My Top Hat

Almost the middle of June already!? I am loving the long days and how light it stays out! I also like that it's light out when I leave for work at 5:30am!
I finally used one of my favorite pieces! I wanted the top hat, I ordered the top hat....then all the ideas I had for the top hat were gone! Thankfully I had a new plan for it.
I layered TH paper, Baked Texture, and a hint of DecoArt Foil and then jazzed it up with the pretty shimmery butterflies.

For all the details and the list of all the products I used head on over to the Southern Ridge Trading Company Blog

Have a fantastic week everyone!

Christmas in May

I know, I know...crazy to be thinking of Christmas now! But because I have a beach themed Christmas tree and these wood tags from Southern Ridge Trading Company are perfect for ornaments, I had to do it!
If you love the beach/ocean like I do, SRTC has got you covered! So many pieces and all the wood and chipboard work with any thing you want to colour them with! For this ornament I used Baked Texture Embossing Powders and Finnabair Sparks Paints. I wanted texture and shimmer!

Here is my new beach themed Christmas ornament thanks to all these amazing pieces from SRTC! And just so you know, the wooden tags come in a package of three, so there will be more ornaments for my tree!! I need to use my lobster and crab! :)

For more detailed pics (and you want to see the coral close up!) head on over to SRTC Blog today, and please check out some of the incredible projects my team mates are creating too! You'll be inspired by everyone!

Thanks everyone and have a great week!

My First ATC's

I haven't worked on ATC's before so this is another new adventure for me! You can come and play along too at the Mixed Up Mag Mixer Facebook group! Weekly prompts are posted and lots of people play along and there are so many good ideas! And it's great for if you are ever stumped, or feel like your mojo went on vacation without you! Also you can purchase the prompts that will fit right on the back of your ATC from Mixed Up Merchandise on Etsy
Don't miss out on the fun! And don't feel you have to do every week, jump in and out when you want to! It's all for fun and sharing our creativity and ideas!

I have attached my first 4 weeks of the challenge here.

Week 1 Challenge - Use your most recent purchase. Mine was some of the Architexture line from 7 Gypsies, which is what all my little cut outs came from. My ATC is covered in Copper Wax from Finnabair, then I used Glass Bead Gel through a stencil for texture. All my pieces are edged in Distress Ink in Worn Lipstick, and my butterflies are TH rub ons.

Week 2 Challenge - Make circles with your coffee cup. I layered paper from the Architexture line first, edge in Distress Ink in Vintage Photo. I did circles with my coffee cup but they didn't stay dark enough so I tried using some coffee grounds to help out.

I still wasn't happy with the circles so I used some Burnt Copper Leaves Embossing Powder from Emerald Creek, but didn't heat emboss it so it looks like grounds :) Added some wings and flowers from TH and some flowers with Emerald Creek gemstones as flower centers.

Week 3 Challenge - Use up old alpha or number stickers/die cuts. I found some old die cut letters (the large c and p underneath) and little alphabet stickers in my stash. ATC is done with Distress Oxides and the large letters are embossed in Burnt Copper Leaves and Fractured Ice from Emerald Creek.

This is a bottle cap I ran through my big shot and then added the TH bingo piece and Emerald Creek gemstones.

Week 4 Challenge - Be inspired by words from a song or poem. Atc is coloured with Distress Oxides in Spiced Marmalade, Candied Apple and Wild Honey. I attached the ripped sheet music with TH Distress Medium in Vintage. The words are from a song by Warren Zevon that my son chose and was played at my Mom's funeral.

The music note is from Southern Ridge Trading Company and was inked in Distress Oxide in Candied Apple and then embosses with Fractured Ice.

The Week 5 Challenge is up today so come on over and join in the fun! And let's see your ATC's.

Thanks for stopping by and have a great day!
