Tag #9 - Tim Holtz Tags of 2016

Woot Woot!! I am 9 for 9! Tags completed and on time, okay sometimes barely, like this month LOL for Tim Holtz 12 Tags of 2016. So both techniques were very new to me this month. I haven't used alcohol inks before really, just to dye metal pieces. The tag I stuck with was my 3rd attempt, I'm loving some of it but alcohol inks and I are not best friends yet....but we are going to practice and work on our friendship! :)

The bottom part of my tag with the gears and the pen nib.

I love the gears but I wanted them to have just a bit more oomph, so I embossed the small one with Hammered Metal and the large one with Burnt Copper Leaves, both from Emerald Creek Craft Supplies

The top part of the tag with some of my favorite brads and charms from Emerald Creek.

Love this button brad but wanted just a bit more texture so I embossed it with Charred Gold Embossing Powder.

Thank you so much for stopping by and hope your week has been a creative one!

Great Canadian Scrapbook Carnival 2016

PART 1
My first ever attendance at the Great Canadian Scrapbook Carnival was this weekend in Calgary, held at Spruce Meadows. I don't know how many times is considered inappropriate to use words like.....awesome, amazing, spectacular, uplifting, energizing, community, kindness, supportive, hilarious, laughter, friendship, creative, talented and really there are so many more!! And I will use them repeatedly during this post!
I walked in the doors Friday morning and right to the back and into the Emerald Creek booth! I finally got to meet Kim, who has been my creative boss and a huge inspiration since last September when she chose me to be on her Design Team! It was one of the best moments of the weekend to meet her and get a big hug. Had a quick chat and got ready for the doors to open to the public.
I also got to meet Julia, designer and artist of amazing pieces at Paradise Lost. And give her a hug! Seems us crafters are an affectionate bunch! I met Nicole of Nicole Wright Designs, briefly but was on my way up to take her Flower Pot class.
What a great class I got to take with Nicole! New techniques learned, time spent with one of my creative idols AND I won the draw for one of the prizes...a Tim Holtz autographed stamp set!! Yes that really happened...on Friday!

Nicole, me in my Charm Chick costume and my signed stamp set!
Now back down to the show room floor!! I also got to meet Karen, owner/Designer from Southern Ridge Trading Company and again was so excited to talk to her and learn from her. And of course my fellow Design Team mate, Katelyn, who also designs for Southern Ridge Trading Company and Graphic 45, got to chat and hug and see so many of her amazing creations up close! You can see her incredible work on at A Creative Journey

Julia, Katelyn, me and Kim...these ladies are beyond amazing!
Julia got this great pic of Kim of Emerald Creek and Karen of Southern Ridge Trading Company. So much talent, business info, kindness and generosity in this picture you can't even imagine!

Again...so much freaking talent and creative genius in one picture!! This photo was from Matt Heykin, Social Media Manager for Scrap and Bean You can follow Matt and see his amazing creations on Instagram - @mrmattmixedmedia
For me this weekend was incredible for so many reasons....but the biggest reason was the people! Such incredible kindness and support and sharing of ideas. These ladies and gents work together and always support others and it's incredible to be a part of and to watch it happen. In this day and age when there is so much negativity and people doing horrible things to each other....The Great Canadian Scrapbook Carnival and the vendors and designers are a shining example of how to treat people with kindness and respect. What a welcoming community and always ready to share their knowledge of this crazy creative crafting world.

Tomorrow will be Part 2 with more pics of the sales floor and some great pics of the Creative Scrapbooker Magazine team, the incredible folks behind the GCSC!!

Thanks for stopping by and have a great day!

Angel Wings

I saw the Frilly and Funkie Challenge when it was posted, but I didn't really have winged things or images. Then I got the amazing Cardinal stamp from Emerald Creek and that prompted me to search through my stash. I found these Tim Holtz wings and an idea was born. I then received the #10 tags that I had ordered from the Funkie Junkie Boutique, things started coming together.
As soon as I saw the Cardinal stamp it reminded me of my Mom. She loved cardinals and every year still, I buy a cardinal ornament for my tree in memory of my Mom.

I did a background on one tag in copper and evergreen bough and vintage photo. The top tag i did in Picket Fence and Wendy Vecchi Mica Spray and just a spritz of Dylusions Mica Spray. On the top tag I used my thinlits and cut out the word and the design. Attached my tags together so the bottom tag was visible.

Added a little Emerald Creek Pinecone, after I embossedd it with soft fallen snow embossing powder and I rusted up my Emerald Creek birdcage charm, using the Finnabair Rust Pastes and added that to the little branch. the branches are embossed in Vintage Ivy and Forest Foliage from Emerald Creek, such amazing texture!

Beautiful cardinal image from Emerald Creek and watercolored in with Ken Oliver Color Bursts and used Onyx Frost to embossed the feet and around it's beak for a little sparkle.
I colored the metal wings with alcohol inks then added some Distress Glitter Dust in Vintage Platinum.

I rusted up the forevermore charm after I had stained it with alcohol ink.

Thanks so much for stopping by! Have a wonderful day!

Happy Anniversary Emerald Creek!

What better way to celebrate the anniversary of Emerald Creek than to do a scrapbook layout featuring the amazing creative brain behind the company! My anniversary project is a tribute to Kim Evans, the amazingly creative owner of Emerald Creek Craft Supplies.

It has been a very exciting year to be a part of with Emerald Creek. Aside from the fact that you can get some of the most amazing embossing powders and fabulous charms and detailed stamp images, working with Kim has been one of the best experiences ever.
Kim Evans is the multi-talented woman behind Emerald Creek Craft Supplies. She designs images, creates exclusive embossing powders, chooses the amazing charms and creates amazing projects. And on top of that she is a Mom, wife, sister, friend etc etc, the list goes on. She manages to do all of these things and successfully run a business and she is one of the kindest most wonderful people I've ever gotten to work for/with. If you have had the opportunity to deal with Kim, you know how hard she works to make things go smoothly, how she supports other businesses and promotes Canadian/local distributors. On top of all these things, she runs her Design Team and sets up all the challenges for you all to enter.
Being a part of this design team has changed my life in so many ways and that is so much in part to Kim taking a chance on me, a creator that has no real name in the industry, and giving me the chance to learn, grow and create regularly. Kim is amazing to work with and treats everyone so well, it's like our own crafting family, and when things exciting happen for me, Kim is the person I share with first, because she gets it and because without her support and belief, I would never have some of these opportunities. I create more, I have learned so much about products and how they are created, I have pushed myself out of my comfort zone and been terrified and excited all at the same time. And every time I've taken a new step this past year, Kim has been beyond supportive. Emerald Creek and Kim will always have my support and I will always remind all of you how amazing this company is :)

Kim Evans (right), the creative whirlwind behind Emerald Creek. In the picture with her, Nicole Wright, who released her first stamp designs with Emerald Creek this year. I admire both these ladies so much, for their kindness, their willingness to help others reach goals and of course because they are both wickedly talented!

The background is some Faber Castell Texture Luxe in pearl, which does not show up well in pics but it is gorgeous! One of the newer charms from Emerald Creek the vintage scissors.

I stamped my Emerald Creek hibiscus and embossed it in three different colours and then I used my new thinlits and cut out their hibiscus on gold paper (from my stash) and embossed the edges in Charred Gold.

Aside from the paint splatters from creating the background,,,just look at all that swirly, textury goodness of the Charred Gold Embossing Powder!! So gorgeous!

For my opposing corners I used the Spring Fresh Swirl Corners from Southern Ridge Trading Company and embossed them with Emerald Creek Hammered Metal. Also used the Believe buckle from EC.

Also under the buckles I used the Texture Luxe and another Tim Holtz mini stencil to add some texture.

Happy Anniversary Kim and Emerald Creek!! Congratulations on an amazing first year and I can't wait to see all your successes in the years to come. Thank you for allowing me the honour of being on part of this journey with you. It has been life changing and such an amazing part of my world.

Who knew....

.....creating Halloween stuff could be so much fun!!?!

I did not! But now I feel like I just might love it! I'm going to blame Nicole Wright Designs for this one! LOL I've watched her create some of the most amazingly gorgeous/creepy Halloween projects for years and this year....i went to Clipper Street and came out with Halloween stuff! I know!! I was shocked too! LOL

One of my other newest addictions is tags!! Since I started doing the Tim Holtz 12 Tags of 2016 I have fallen in love with working with tags! I just got some of the larger ones and I'm going to give those a try too! So here are my first ever Halloween creations!

Both tags together

This tag is done on the black and the background is a stencil done with glass bead gel and bit of Dylusions Paint.

Glass bead gel, dried then sprayed with the Dylsuions mica Spray in Crushed Grape. Also sprayed my tiny tattered florals with the mica spray and Distress Spray in Twisted Citron and Dusty Concord

Tried out some of my new purchases and did the skull and crossbones on burlap. The burlap was coloured with Twisted Citron and stamped with the web stamp from Emerald Creek Craft Supplies

This is done on a manilla tag and I brayered distress ink in Spiced Marmalade and Twisted Citron for the background and then splattered some Dylusions Crushed Grape on it. I used my Emerald Creek web and embossed it in Onyx Frost

I added some bits that I had cut out from the Materialize paper pad and a bingo piece I had.

Another skull from Ideology and the Crinkle Ribbon stained with Spiced Marmalade, Twisted Citron and Hickory Smoke.

Had to have this awesome skull charm from Emerald Creek on my tag too! Creepy but adorable, is that even possible!? LOL

Thanks for stopping by and having a look at my first ever Halloween creations. I think there may be more!

Have a great day!

Cathy

Show Us Your Super Hero!!

Ohhh yay for Thursday! A new blog post and challenge from Emerald Creek!! And this one is a doozy!! In preparation for The Great Canadian Scrapbook Carnival it's time to show us.....YOUR SUPER HERO!! Is it a real life hero ( I have a few of those), a Marvel or DC one or is one you wish was real! I created my own Super Hero...CHARM CHICK!! You know the one you can count on to deliver what you need to embellish, when you need it!

My day background was done using my Gelli Plate, Dylusions paint and pressing my Emerald Creek charms and brads into the paint. I then used Emerald Creek cardstock to pull the print off the Gelli Plate. I did the edges with a Distress crayon and Emerald Creek blue shimmer embossing powder.

Charm Chick to your embellishing rescue!! Look at all the amazing charms you could have.
