Outdoors in the Summer

It's time for a new challenge from Emerald Creek Dares! So many things to do in the summer...but I am not a real outdoorsy person! But if it's the beach I am all over that and camping was the big thing my kids and I used to do.

I started with a great 6X6 canvass and stained it with some Distress Spray in Mermaid Lagoon and Twisted Citron. I then took some Tim Holtz plain tissue, stamped my images on it in Archival Black, quick shot with the heat gun to set it. I then scrunched up my tissue and rolled it in Distress Spray on my craft mat. I layered that on the canvass for my background. I added a bit of gel medium in certain spots and sprinkled in some Irridescent Shimmer Embossing powder on the sea side and weathered wood embossing powder on the camping side to add some texture.

You can see the Weathered Wood EP in the bottom corner here and the image of the outhouse on the tissue paper too.

The Irridescent Shimmer powder is there, but the pics do not do the shimmer you get justice! And there is the fishing boat image there too.

Love the outhouse image! And really, we've all had to use them on a camping trip. I colored in all the images using the Distress Crayons.
Yes I have used this starfish stamp alot! I love it! This time I embossed it in the Thanksgiving EP and filled in the open spaces with a Distress Crayon.

Campfires are the best thing about camping....sitting around them roasting marshmallows, talking and just relaxing.

The beach or camping it is for me....although the camping gear has not been used in alot of years now. Maybe next summer :) But don't you delay in sharing your Outdoors, Sports and More project over at the Emerald Creek Dares Challenge and you could win a $25 GC to order some of the amazing products!

Hello Summer!

Happy Thursday and welcome to summer with the newest Emerald Creek Dares and projects from the amazing Design Team! This week it's time to welcome summer! Time for sand, sea, shells and ice cream at the beach and fish 'n' chips from Moby Dick's in White Rock!!

My project this month is a frame that I have had kicking around for awhile and just didn't get around to my original plans for it So glad I didn't because it was the perfect frame for some of my favorite beach pictures. All seashells and driftwood are right from walks on the beach.

I made my frame all beachy by running my Distress Embossing Ink pad around it and then pouring Emerald Creek San Tropez Tan all over it and heating it!
The background for my pics was some light tan colored cardstock I had in my stash so i inked all around the edges with Vintage Photo, Broken China and Dusty Concord. My starfish stamp is embossed in Frosted Plum. Just to add a bit of interest on the sides I wrapped some hemp twine in natural and purple around the frame.

I also embossed my linked heart charm in the San Tropez Tan as well...just a note, do not try to pick up heat embossed metal right after you have put it down from the tweezers you used to hold it while heating! lol

The small chipboard starfish are from Southern Ridge Trading Company and also embossed in Frosted Plum.

Used some of the cameo charms and glossy accents to add my little seashells to the frame

The embossing on the frame with the hemp twine and the awesome starfish stamp.

Anything Goes

It's Spring, the weather had been wonderful and today on the Emerald Creek Blog....Anything Goes!! And I'm going to the beach!! It is my favorite place and I really need to go more often....just to walk, take pictures and have ice cream! And collecting seashells and little driftwood sticks to use on craft projects of course.

For this project I started with a Tim Holtz shadow box, gessoed it, then used my fingers to add some Dusty Concord and Peacock Feather Distress Paint. I made my own "fishnet" using some hemp twine I had in my stash.

I stamped and cut out my Emerald Creek Starfish and Water Logged. I then used my Emerald Creek Weathered Wood Embossing Powder and San Tropez Tan to the add texture to the logs. I love the texture from these embossing powders!!

I painted these adorable little seahorses and starfish from Southern Ridge Trading Company, with Distress Paint and a bit of silver Distress Spray.
I used some old Scrabble tiles for my "beach" across the top, just used the same colors of Distress Paint on them as I had used on the shadow box.

A Day At The Beach

Well it was a nice quiet Sunday. My kids and I decided that we were just going to go out and wander today. So we went out to White Rock Beach and walked the boardwalk and out to the end of the pier. I took a lot of pics, as I always do! So many things reminded me of my Mom while we were out there today, the beach itself, the daffodils blooming all over, just being out there.

One of my Mom's favorite flowers ♥

Heading onto the pier, love the arches

The train tracks that run along this part of the beach, have some ideas for more pics here

Seashells on the seashore, love the shells

After we strolled and chatted and had ice cream, well gelato, strawberry cheesecake for me, tiramisu for my son and peanut butter snickers for my daughter, we left the beach and headed out to a little spot called Fort Langley. We actually used to live in Fort Langley about 12 years ago, but moved away to Calgary. Love the little shops and artisans storefronts there. One of the best little places is in Gasoline Alley, called Cranberries..Naturally, great place!
Cranberries Naturally in Fort Langley, BC

Was a great idea to just go and get out of the house.....next Sunday maybe a new neighborhood out in Vancouver to adventure in?!

Hope everyone's week starts well :)
