Rock The Red

It is time to Rock the Red with Emerald Creek Craft Supplies and I am posting for Part 2!! This is a bittersweet post for me as it is my last one as on official member of the Emerald Creek Design Team. I know I'm usually a "Chatty Cathy" but I'm not sure I have the words for this post that will fully describe what being a part of Emerald Creek has meant to me. From the day I received the e-mail saying I was on the team to now has been one of the best times of my life. I have been honored to be part of team with some of the most talented ladies I've seen and I have been so lucky to meet so many of them. Thanks to Kim seeing something in my projects that she liked, I have been able to be a part of a huge community of creators and am very fortunate to call some of these talented, kind people my friends. And of course, one of the most important is Kim, the genius behind Emerald Creek Craft Supplies. She is incredibly supportive, kind, generous and really any other wonderful thing you can use to describe a person. I admire her drive to to be a Mom, a wife, a sister, a daughter, a friend and to grow her incredible business, while she works outside of the home too. And while I may not be posting monthly for this incredible lady, I will always support her and her company because of who she is, what she represents and the the top quality of her products. Emerald Creek has become my crafty family over the last year and a half and I love them and for all the support and help and generous help as I find my way in the crafty world, I will be eternally grateful. Still not the right words for how much Kim and EC mean to me but a valiant effort :) I'll be in my corner with my blankie and some tissue now.
So I guess I should show you the project now right?! LOL

Emerald Creek has always inspired me, have become my crafty family and we've had a few laughs along the way!
I painted a canvas board with a mix of Distress Paint in Spun Sugar and Candied Apple. I then gesso'd hearts with the TH stencil, after that was dry I used my embossing dauber and embossed hearts with Emerald Creek Candy Red and a mix of Candy Red EP and Fractured Ice. Love the texture!
I got the heart with wood pieces idea from The Artful Maven and a project she did. I cut up bits of wood and embossed them all in Candy Red EP and glued them to a grungeboard heart I had in my stash.
Love the texture and colour I got from mixing Fractured Ice EP with the Candy Red EP.

I embossed this little wood piece with embossing ink and Candy Red EP. Got quite a smooth finish on this.

If you want more texture, I used Distress Paint and Candy Red EP. I found with the paint I got more texture when I embossed.

I also used the Distress Paint on this one and embossed it with the Fractured Ice, so much texture on this one!

Please swing by and see the wonderful creations from the other DT members!

More Hearts!

It's time for another project for Mixed Media Mojo Monthly Challenge!! All the details are up on the blog today! Please swing by and see some of the details on my project, especially the gorgeousness of the melty Charred Gold Embossing Powder heart!!

Here is my 6X6 canvas I created for the theme "love" with the twist "wings"

I found the heart with wings stencil and thought it was a perfect center design (it pays to de clutter a storage closet sometimes!) and my Charred Gold ep, it's an addiction, I know. And more playing and practicing with my Twist and Style Tool designed by Eileen Hull.

Thanks for having a look and please hop over to see some of the detail pictures at Mixed Media Mojo!

Have a great day everyone and hope you all get some time to be crafty!

A Love Kinda Month

It's February...already! And this month is all about love and Valentine's Day and red and pink and hearts! As a single person I focus on the love I have for my kids and my nephews, so I usually get them all chocolates or something small. I'm pretty sure they know how much I love them everyday of the year, but I do get caught up in all the pretty packaging and hearts and shinyness everywhere.
I created a 5X7 Valentine for my mantel and used words that remind me of my folks, because as crazy as they could make each other, their love was strong and timeless. I still hear the love in my Dad's voice when he talks about Mom and how much he misses her.

My base layer is a piece of cardboard from my TH stash, sprayed with Candied Apple, Tea Dye, Vintage Photo and Tarnished Brass. The large heart was from an old grungeboard set I had again sprayed with the same colours. My old Scrabble tiles are layered on TH burlap, and even though the burlap has the adhesive back, I used glossy accents to adhere it because of the extra weight of the tiles. My aged flowers are sprayed with the Wendy Vecchi Mica Spray in buttecup and the red rose is edged with my Emerald Creek Charred Gold! I added two chipboard pieces from Southern Ridge Trading Company, (these heart flowers may have been discontinued but there are tons of others to choose from) one done with Charred Gold ep and the other stained in the same colours as the background.

Here are a few close ups of my project!

Once I had attached the tiles, I pulled some of the stings off the burlap so it had a more frayed look.

I wish the mica sprays showed up better in the pictures, they are so pretty and shimmery!

I just love the texture I can get with my Charred Gold embossing powder.

Thank you for stopping by and I hope you are having a wonderful week!

Love Is In The Air

Welcome to February with the Mixed Media Mojo Monthly Challenge!! Be sure to head over to the blog to see all the amazing projects from the DT! This month's challenge is Love, Twist - Wings. Here's my take on the challenge.

It's all about Love....but can you spot my twist?!

I used alcohol inks in Black, Purple and Flamingo (I originally started with gold but didn't like how it showed up so I switched to black) and Yupo paper to create a plaid background. Thanks to my friend Freddie for the instructions on that! I then painted a piece of substrate with the Opal Magic Violet Gold by Finnabair.
I then edge the piece in mica powder. Here is where I originally painted with the Distress paint in Wilted Violet, but I did not like the way it turned out. So I left it aside and worked on my Yupo plaid. I wrote with the embossing pen and then heat embossed with Fractured Ice from Emerald Creek.

And because I didn't like the way one paint turned out, I used black gesso and covered it and liked that much better. I then used my Distress Black Soot marker to colour the word love and stamped it around the border. To add some more texture to the black I used transparent texture paste through the heart stencil. All my little flowers were done with Tattered Florals die and paper from Wild Whisper Designs, I used some Emerald Creek brads for the flower centers.
And now for a few close ups of the project!

All the flower sections are edged with Distress Ink in Dusty Concord

This button brad was embossed in Onyx Frost, both items from Emerald Creek.

This flower center is a Tiny Tattered Floral.

You can see the heart texture in the background

Printed and then embossed in Fractured Ice

And to make sure you could see my twist...here are my "wings" on the little flower fairy

Please make sure to check out the blog and play along with the February challenge!!

Thank you so much for stopping by and have a great week!
